About BGNS

We are a well organised group of volunteers who first came together in 2009 to tackle isolation and loneliness amongst older people in our community.

Having grown over the years, the Scheme currently has over 65 volunteers giving weekly support to more than 80 BGNS friends, who might otherwise be alone.

Our Scheme Coordinator is tasked with matching clients with suitable volunteers; coordinating all DBS checks; making initial home visits, followed by introductions; and lends support as friendships develop and help is provided.

The Coordinator reports to the BGNS Committee, who are elected annually, meet regularly, and are bound by a written constitution. We are members of the Good Neighbour Scheme Network in Oxfordshire, run by Volunteer Link-Up (West Oxfordshire) in partnership with Age UK Oxfordshire.

"…thank you very much for your excellent support. I appreciate the care that goes into matching the volunteers & clients and have experienced first-hand the massive difference this has made to the well-being and happiness of those I have referred to BGNS. Your efforts have been hugely appreciated by all."
