Bicester Good Neighbour Scheme (BGNS) is a voluntary organisation that offers free support and friendship to older people in Bicester and nearby villages. We match our clients (known as Friends) with local people, who give some of their time to help.
Who qualifies for the Good Neighbour Scheme?
Our volunteers are happy to visit anyone who needs help, but priority is given to those who are over 65 and live alone. If you would enjoy some friendly company, or need a little help, please give us a call.
Who are the volunteers?
BGNS volunteers are simply kind-hearted local people who lend a helping hand. All are DBS checked and they all carry identification. Interested in helping? See our Volunteering page for more information.
How to arrange a volunteer visit or get some help
Updated November 2020
CORONAVIRUS: BGNS is following all Government advice and has suspended befriending home visits. We are supporting our BGNS friends (clients) by telephone and other means. Our capacity to assist with other services is limited. Where BGNS volunteers are not available we will aim to advise new enquirers about other local sources of support e.g. where to find help with basic shopping.
To ensure everyone’s safety we will ask you to provide some information including: emergency contact details; whether you have any special needs; and some safety questions about your home environment. ALL INFORMATION IS KEPT CONFIDENTIAL AT ALL TIMES.
For more information about us, download our leaflet.
Our leaflet explains who we are and what our volunteers do. It can be downloaded to print and share with anyone that is not online.
