We are a well organised group of volunteers who understand that there is a growing number
of older local people who may feel isolated, often with physical disabilities that prevent them from
going out alone. Increasingly, there are no close relatives nearby to provide
both the social contact and practical help that is needed.
We simply match volunteers with an hour or so to spare each week with local older people who would
like a visitor or someone to help with errands or odd jobs around the home.
Our coordinator is tasked with matching
clients to volunteer visitors; coordinating all DBS related checks; making initial visits to
clients in their homes, assessing their needs and any special requirements; and liaising with existing
clients and volunteers to ensure that the service continues to run smoothly and efficiently.
The coordinator reports to the scheme committee, who are elected annually, meet regularly,
and are bound by our written constitution. We are members of the Good Neighbour Scheme Network
in Oxfordshire, run by Volunteer Link Up (West Oxfordshire).
The service we provide is free for all clients. Our costs are covered by a mix of grants, donations,
and fundraising. We are always interested to hear from local companies, organisations, and
individuals who wish to support the scheme or to help raise funds.
